The Crane Wives

Favorite book of all time?
I don’t have a favorite book of all time, because I love to read, so favorites are always changing (much like music). My latest book obsession is Marked by Masks and Secrets by Maggie Sunseri. Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by Olga Tokarczuk is also a current favorite read.

Have a beer with anyone dead or alive, who would it be?
I would love to grab a beer with Ching Shih – she was a 19th-century Chinese prostitute-turned-pirate queen who commanded the Red Flag Fleet, a massive armada of over 400 to 1,800 ships and up to 80,000 pirates. In 1810, she negotiated with the Qing government, securing a pardon, keeping her looted wealth, and opening a gambling house, allowing her to retire as one of history’s most successful pirates. That woman was a BAD ASS and she lived to tell the tales of her badassery.

A perfect Sunday… A perfect Sunday is taking a chill hike with friends on a nice day, or sitting at home drinking tea and reading a book with my cat Skittles.
